Independence Dog Park

Independence Dog Park offers a spacious, wheelchair accessible off-leash area for both small and large dogs, with thick grass and shade from large trees. The park features amenities like a pavilion with picnic tables, water fountains, a dog obstacle course, and is family-friendly with playgrounds and basketball courts nearby. While popular and well-equipped, visitors should note some uneven terrain and holes caused by digging, as well as a need for better gate maintenance and surface improvements to prevent mud.

Every time I’ve gone there my dog has been attacked, I do not recommend bringing your dog there unless there is a minimum of people. There is no regulation as to the size of the dogs even though there are separate parts for different sizes. It’s not the dog’s fault. It’s the people’s fault letting dogs that are aggressive play with other dogs is not positive for dogs who are very docile like my dog.

Great place! Large and small dog area. Large area has 4ft fence. No washing station, but has water fountain to fill buckets and bowls (already there along with a few toys)

Nice dog park, covered basketball courts, pool, several small, walking trails, one with a large hill you can walk around peaceful and family friendly

Good sized off leash area for both large and small dogs. Shade structure and water fountain for hot days. Plenty of room for chucking balls.

I love taking my dogs to this park. It’s very spacious with plenty of room to play fetch and for the dogs to run around. The grass is very thick and well kept. There are plenty of water bowls and a never ending water supply courtesy of the city. There is a nice pavilion in the middle of the park with a picnic table and nice large trees for shade. There is also a cool dog obstacle course, although I rarely see it being used. However, the dogs have dug up the grass and even made a fairly large hole around the pavilion pavement. The hole is right on the edge of pavement where people are standing, walking and it’s an accident waiting to happen. Also it can get very muddy especially after it rains or when the dogs knock over the water bowls. The hole needs to filled and the grass patched and then I will give the park 5 stars 🌟.
Update: They have updated this park to make it more spacious than before and there are a lot of dogs that come to play. However, the new gates aren’t working well and there are some really uneven areas due to holes that were dug by dogs and the drought that really need to be taken care of. It’s a major tripping hazard. I almost twisted my ankle. I do believe a little more care needs to be given to the park. Maybe they should replace the grass with turf, dogs can’t dig and they won’t get muddy if it rains. Going to update my score from 5 to 4
