Wonderful place to relax. Great walking paths throught the area, and many gravel pull-offs to park. Though some areas are more difficult than others, at it hardest, the trails are moderate difficulty. Close to I-83 and easy to get to, but you still feel as if you are out in the wilderness.

Feb 22, ‘24. Incredible day! It’s beautiful! Hiked the trail to the dam, lots of bouldering. Not an easy hike, but absolutely worth it.

Narrow trail that runs along the river side, only blazed here and there, but easy to see trail this time of year. Challenging hike that ended with the stair climb. I can’t wait to go back.

This place makes for an excellent day trip to go hiking, take in some views, or even pull your canoe to the reservoir for some fishing. The trails weren’t all well blazed, however not too technical or difficult, and there are a few openings off the side of some area roads to take in the sights. Definitely a great place to get in some tranquility time and exercise.

Arresting edifice — such a large imposing structure built so long ago. Completed in 1932 to create a water reservoir on the Gunpowder Falls, it is still a beautiful and imposing structure to behold. The walk down the 170+ steps, to get a closer look at the dam and spewing water plume and subsequent return to the top, was an invigorating challenge well worth the effort. The air felt so fresh and oxygenated from the negative ions produced by the falling water. Even though the stairs were taxing to navigate, the serotonin rush from the gushing water created a palpable feel-good sensation.
The views of the reservoir and land from this historic dam were stunning, particularly as the sun was lowering in the sky. We didn’t know of this place, but it was a rewarding discovery and great surprise on our “field trip”.

A beautifully built, huge dam that is definitely worth visiting. There is parking available on both sides, you can walk over and can go down on steps to see it from below.
