Luckily campsite #1 had a relatively flat section we could pitch our tent on. Other campsites did not have any flat sections.

Be sure to bring cash and a pen to pay the NULL camping fee by filling out an envelope and sliding it into a drop box by the main map.

First, some of these camping spots are located on a hill which was known when I was booking the site. What I didn’t know was that the site itself, the only real spot that I could pitch my tent up, was on a bit of a slope so it was rather uncomfortable for me sleeping on the ground with nothing more than a light inflatable mat and a sleeping bag. Secondly, it’s a bit of a tight drive inside of the camping grounds so do NOT go above 10 MPH.

The pictures were taking sometime in April or May 2025, when it was raining. First time I camped out in the rain, wasn’t the best experience and it didn’t help that I had no overhanging tarp to act as a cover when I was setting up the tent, among other things. Had to resort to using an emergency blanket in the middle of the night.

When camping in this area, be mindful of the spots. Try to pick one close to the roads and/or be prepared to pitch a tent on an area with a bit of a slope. I’d recommend cots when sleeping up in this area. I was in either spots #1, 2 or #3.

Also bring hand wipes as I don’t think the vault toilets had any sinks or hand sanitation.

On the plus side, my Ozark Trail 3 person tent did a good job keeping any additional rain from pouring in.

Absolutely loved this place, it was my first time camping and my boyfriend couldn’t have pick a better spot. Dog friendly and lots of space and trails everywhere. Tons of bugs but this netting was a life saver. I recommend 5-7 because it’s the closest to the bathrooms and not much up hill walking to them.

Nice clean campground! Very clean bathrooms and water. Narrow single lane road goes steep uphill, and the sites are each off the road and very visible, but also have lots of shade. It’s very hot in the summer. With the droughts the creek is not running at all. But observatory, hiking, and general store is close and it’s half as expensive as nearby sites. As mentioned on other reviews, some sites are reserved/closed, which is probably either for renovation or nature protection.

The route here was quite nice and beautiful.

We love this campground despite all the 3 stars reviews I have read over. The trail next to it was nice and has great views. We did not have any bug problems nor issues with mosquitos.

This is the perfect time to camp here because it is cool but not too cold and it’s not hot and the sunshine just hits you right when you need a warm up.🙂 we really enjoyed the hike and the campground is clean. This is a nice place to get away from the city.
