Discover Kitchawan Preserve, a scenic and pet-friendly destination nestled in Ossining, New York. This beautiful park features extensive dog-friendly hiking trails winding through lush forests, offering picturesque lake views and rock formations like the legendary Raven’s Rock. The preserve is perfect for those seeking easy to intermediate-level nature walks with their furry companions. Locals rave about the peaceful environment and accessible, well-marked trails, making it a beloved spot for year-round outdoor adventure with dogs.
Parking is available but can be limited, and visitors are reminded to be considerate to neighbors on this residential street. While dogs are frequently seen enjoying the park, leash requirements are enforced—be mindful that many owners do let their dogs off-leash against posted rules. The preserve does not have a fenced dog area, but its open, wooded environment and tranquil paths make for an enjoyable outing with your pet. Shade is plentiful along the tree-lined paths, and benches let you relax by the calm lake or rest along your walk.
This place should be nice but there were so many off leash dogs, and their owners were not cleaning up after them. I also saw people smoking. It smelled awful and was really quite disgusting and uncomfortable with all the dogs. The views are nice but it was a very gross place.
Lovely tree lined dirt paths. Plenty of places to sit by the calm lake. Friendly locals with their friendly dog. Great place for an easy hike all year round.
This place is really well marked with well maintained trails and is in the center of multiple trail systems that can take you all the way to the Bronx. The 2 stars is the fact that most dog owners here go off leash, which the park clearly states is not allowed. Sounds like a possible law suit if I ever saw one. So be careful!
Beautiful trails with varying degrees of difficulty from beginners to intermediate. Excellent hiking with dogs, easy to park and good access to bridges. Clearly marked trails. Getting near the reservoir and watershed is not allowed, but the remainder of the preserve grounds are a deep forest with views to the water and with bridges over some brooks.
I enjoy coming here for the great trails, scenic views, and refreshing air. I usually bring my dog here and the only drawback are the (usually untrained) dogs off leash straight from the parking lot. Owners are a bit oblivious- I’ve witnessed dogs running behind cars as they were parking and dogs wandering on the trails as owners are on their phones. I highly recommend going really early or later in the day to avoid the rush (and people). It really is a beautiful place for a hike
