🐾 Kids at the Dog Park: Real Stories, Safety Risks & Smarter Solutions
If you’ve spent time at an off-leash park, you’ve probably seen it:A parent strolls in with a stroller 🚼 or […]
Pleasant Point Park, located in Oakland, Maine, is a scenic spot known for its beautiful water views, abundant wildlife, and peaceful atmosphere. While the park offers a variety of outdoor experiences and the opportunity to interact with nature, dog owners should be aware that there is only a specific area where dogs are permitted. Most of the park—including the fields and nature paths near the water—are marked with signs stating no pets allowed.
The designated dog area provides some open space, shade, and the chance to enjoy the outdoors, but visitors should note reports of pests like horse flies and bees during warmer months. The park is free to enter, rarely crowded, and perfect for making relaxing memories in Oakland. However, if you’re seeking an off-leash dog park or an area with extensive pet-friendly trails, this location may have limitations. Always check posted signs for current dog rules and restrictions during your visit.
Calling this park dog friendly is pretty misleading. There is a very specific open area to walk your dog but literally everywhere else has signs saying no pets. So, you can’t take your dog on the field or on the nature path near the water. Unfortunately we also visited when the designated dog space was filled with huge horse flies and bees. I’m sure this space is great but definitely not great with dogs.
It’s a beautiful park and the water felt great but it’s a hike to the beach. And it really wasn’t all that safe getting in and out of the water. There are rocks and angled concrete slabs. I wouldn’t go here with my kids because of all the inconveniences. And dogs aren’t allowed.
Awesome place! Love the fact that it’s FREE for people to enjoy. It has never been super crowded anytime I’ve gone. Water is always so warm here and it’s super clean. Great place to make memories, for sure💜
This is alittle Oakland jewel. It’s quiet provides plenty of shade and sun. A place where bonds are made. The wildlife is amazing, with eagles, wood packers, squirrels and chipmunks 🐿
We had a wonderful time here, plenty of space to roll around, and the water temperature was perfect. We saw/heard the loon, plenty of fish, and even this painted turtle spent some time with us.
