Joaquin Miller Park is a scenic, dog-friendly park nestled in the Oakland hills, offering breathtaking views of the Bay Area, including Oakland and San Francisco skylines. This expansive park features pet-friendly trails perfect for dog owners who love hiking, as well as a dedicated dog park area where pups can socialize and play. The park’s wide and paved main paths make it ideal for relaxed strolls, while numerous hiking and biking trails invite more adventurous outings among the towering redwoods and aromatic eucalyptus trees.
For visitors looking for amenities, Joaquin Miller Park provides picnic tables, barbecue grills, and plenty of parking, making it a great spot for spending an entire day with family, friends, and dogs. The park is also wheelchair accessible, ensuring inclusivity for all guests. Other highlights include playgrounds for children, public restrooms, and serene spots for a quiet escape into nature—all within Oakland city limits.
A park that at one point must have had a lot of activity, but now most of its infrastructure has been neglected. As you walk around you will notice relics of the past, but not all is lost. First there are a few things that are maintained and are accessable, and second what’s available to the public is very enjoyable. Great views of San Francisco, downtown Oakland and the Bay are at the top of the list. There are hiking and biking trails all around.
Nice safe park close to the city. Good to get away for some quiet thinking among the redwoods and foliage but nothing super spectacular about the trail and views.
This park is close to my home, and I often go there for a trail walk on the weekends. I was pleasantly surprised by a few viewpoints where you can see the skylines of both Auckland and San Francisco; it was very enjoyable. You can easily spend a couple of hours there, have lunch in the park, and if you’re feeling adventurous, you can hike up the hill to the space center, which is called the Job Space Center. It’s a fun park where you can spend an entire day. There are numerous trails to explore, making it a great place for families, friends, or even dogs.
I love to take my dogs to this park. It’s nice having the dog parks, but it’s nicer walking them on the main path or one of the smaller trails. The main path is fairly wide and paved. There’s usually lots of parking and lots of available tables for picnics. You can find some really good views of Oakland and the bay from various spots in the park.
Loved the beautiful views of the city and the redwoods, as well as the beautiful and recharging scents of the trees including lots of eucalyptus ones! I just wish some of the hillside hiking trails would be wider so they could be safer especially when being on the path with bikers
