Hansen Park is a beloved dog park in North Haven, Connecticut, featuring a mix of pet-friendly hiking trails and open fields for outdoor enjoyment. The park is well-suited for dog owners seeking an easygoing hike or scenic walk, with three primary trails (yellow, red, and blue) offering varying terrain from flat, accessible paths to rocky ridges and brief steep climbs. The spacious parking lot makes access hassle-free, and the field near the entrance provides a nice spot for dogs and owners who prefer to avoid the hillier sections.
Locals appreciate the tranquil setting, and the trails are well maintained throughout the year. While the park is not fully equipped with fenced areas or agility equipment, it does offer a peaceful escape with ample nature and space to roam. Please note, ticks can be present during warm weather, so always check your pets after a visit to keep them safe and healthy.
good parking lot big for plenty of cars. they had 3 trails what I can tell the yellow is flat then you can do the Red or blue. the blue seems to be up on the ridge. oh the red also starts close to where you park your car on the other side. only down fall I can see sadly is no trail map and yes their is a steep climb in a few places
Easy hike, but with it being unseasonably warm this winter, we came back with 7 ticks. Both our short hair and long hair dogs had ticks clinging to them. The trail is not well marked in the winter but there is a sizeable field attached for folks who can’t walk up slopes easy.
Great place for hiking and trail running! The Red trail is relatively flat and mostly dirt while the blue trail is steeper and has some rocky terrain.
If you Google directions it will send you to the back of a field, not the entrance. Go to the south side off Patten road and you will find the entrance easily. The trails are marked very well. I went on a rainy Sunday w my dog and we were the only ones there. It was a nice 30 min loop, we went out the yellow and back on the blue. The blue trail goes up to the middle ridge. It is clear the trails are well kept bc they had cleared the paths that were blocked recently by felled trees in the hurricane winds. Overall a very nice escape.
Beautiful little park. The stream was too low to get in some good fly fishing though. Wasn’t expecting that.
