Hilltop Reservation Dog Park – North Caldwell, New Jersey

Hilltop Reservation Dog Park in North Caldwell is a popular local destination for dog owners looking for a spacious, pet-friendly environment in New Jersey. This fenced dog park offers separate areas for large and small dogs—though visitors mention not everyone follows these guidelines, making it important to keep a close watch on your pet. The park features gravel terrain, a wheelchair accessible entrance and parking, water fountains, and some agility equipment for your canine companion to enjoy. Regular visitors note the friendly community atmosphere, but also advise checking your dog’s paws for pebbles after play and being mindful as dogs tend to congregate near the entrance.

A standout feature of Hilltop Reservation Dog Park is its access to nearby pet-friendly trails and wooded walking paths, providing more options for exercise and adventure beyond the fenced area. While the park is generally well-maintained with secure gates and fencing, reviews point out occasional issues with cleanup and park rule enforcement, so bringing your own waste bags is recommended. Overall, it’s a great spot for dog-friendly outings, burning off energy, and connecting with local dog lovers.

Tips for new people: it is gravel, so check your dog’s paws afterward and clean out the pebbles!

Also, at the park’s entrance, dogs tend to congregate, and some dogs get overwhelmed and bite, so ensure your dog walks in and has room to acclimate to the area, smell and visit other dogs slowly and calmly.

Three stars because there is no enforcement of dog owners cleaning up their dog’s businesses. also, some guy keeps smoking from a marijuana pen there, and it reeks. To maintain the park’s exclusivity and ensure a pleasant experience for all, I recommend considering a membership system instead of keeping it open to the public. Some irresponsible people bring their dogs (they know) are not too friendly and my dog has been in bad situations before.

there is a walking trail in the woods and it is fun for my dog after she plays.

Got my dog to do the obstacles here!!! We’ve been across the country over the last 6 months, and this was our first! In Virginia now, but woulda been nice to hang out.

there are 2 sections: large dogs and small dogs. Not everyone follows the rules about separating large dogs from small dogs. This creates a dangerous situation for small dogs. People need to be more considerate and follow the rules!

Great open space for the dogs to run around. There are a few obstacles installed and a water fountain

Discovered this park because I work nearby. I love how big this space is for dogs that love to run around freely. Every owner I came across was super friendly and engaging with conversation getting to know you and your dog. It seems like a lot of the ppl here are within the community or at least it felt like it as everyone seemed to know each other. Overall the gates and fence look in good condition which I loved as it’s always a fear of the smaller dogs squeezing through holes and running off. First time I came here there was left over stool from large dogs but today it seemed to be clean. Recommend to anyone looking to burn their dog’s energy while making friends! Didn’t run into any issue of any owner not keeping their dog in check.
