🐾 Kids at the Dog Park: Real Stories, Safety Risks & Smarter Solutions
If you’ve spent time at an off-leash park, you’ve probably seen it:A parent strolls in with a stroller 🚼 or […]
Located conveniently off 12th St. and Highland Meadows Drive, Norman Community Dog Park is one of the most popular dog parks in Norman, Oklahoma. Sprawling with three distinct paddocks—including dedicated spaces for small dogs and combined or separable areas for large dogs—this park offers ample space for dogs to run, socialize, and play off-leash. The park is well-maintained by the city and is equipped with benches, shade trees (with more being added), water pumps and bowls, and abundant waste stations stocked with poop bags, making it a favorite among local pet owners.
The park sits next to a pond where dogs are welcome to swim under owner supervision, providing unique recreation compared to other parks in the area. With wheelchair-accessible entrances and parking, kid-friendly hiking trails, and pet-friendly pathways, the park is designed for everyone’s enjoyment. Although the park lacks restroom facilities and water can be unavailable during the winter months, its large parking areas, safety, and the presence of seating in shaded spots ensure a comfortable visit for both dogs and their humans.
My dogs always have a blast when they come to the park. Be careful taking your pups parvo lives in the park we just lost our 5 month old pup we don’t go anywhere else due to us not having a lot of free time. My dog got really sick a few days after going there. I’m just warning owners. Make sure ur pups are properly vaccinated
A nice expensive dog park located and easily accessible from 12th St. The directions take you to the main big park entrance on Robinson, but don’t use those because you cannot get to the dog park from there. You need to enter at the stoplight where 12th St. and Highland Meadows Drive are. That brings you straight into the dog park area. The dog park has three large paddocks. One for small dogs and one for large dogs that also opens up into a section area. There are no restroom facilities here. There is a pond across the parking lotthat many people take the dogs to go swimming in. And that is allowed. Really not a bad place at all. There are plenty of benches around the park, including some that are in the shade. There is water for the dogs though apparently it gets turned off when it gets too cold.
This dog park is a nice space for the pups to play and run off some energy. The city (usually) does a good job of maintaining it and keeping it stocked with poop bags. There are a few benches to sit on, scattered throughout. The city has planted more trees recently, and it will be a pleasure to watch them grow.
My biggest complaints would be that there is no running water during the winter months, and we really do need a bigger park for the amount of dogs in the city! It would also be great if there were some sort of facilities close by. The dogs can go wherever they want, but the poor humans can’t!
My pup & I love this place! It’s well maintained & very safe! Only had an experience with a dog fight once, but it was handled quickly by the owners. Great place to get your dog some exercise, also a great place for a walk around the pond!
We enjoy taking our dog here, but it’s I imagine it’s much like taking your child to Reeves park, “play at your own risk” 😳🤗 Everyone raises a dog differently! They have three areas; two for the larger dogs, which they rotate usage and one for smaller dogs. They have a water pump and stainless steel bowls and a kiddie pool out there for the pups. They took the swing out though. 😞 large parking lot along the park and extra parking toward the front, not too much shade or seating inside.
