Newtown Park & Bark is a large, well-maintained dog park in Newtown, Connecticut, known for its clean and beautiful grounds. The park features multiple spacious fenced areas, including dedicated enclosures for both large and small dogs. Amenities include a spray area, a plastic pool for water-loving pups, water fountains available during warmer months, and a grassy play zone with agility ramps, hoops, and tires.
Dog owners enjoy covered seating for shade, ample waste stations with bags and bins, paved areas, and accessible parking. The park is wheelchair accessible and good for families with children. A permit is technically required (through local Animal Control), but the rule is loosely enforced. Pet-friendly trails and wildlife refuges are located nearby for additional outdoor adventures, making this a favorite spot for both local and visiting dog lovers.
This dog park is beautiful and clean!
It’s a large fenced-in area with a little spray area and a little plastic pool to encourage water play.
Plastic bags are provided to clean up after your pup, and mostly everyone who goes there is courteous and respectful towards others.
There is a little roofed over area where one can sit in the shade but otherwise, its whole area is in the full sun.
There is also a secluded play zone for tiny pups that is fenced in, that borders besides the regular dog play area.
Dog treats aren’t allowed there to avoid fights over food but also due to food allergies. I have seen that on occasion people break that rule, but if your dog is sensitive, I suggest you scan the area before you let your pup play…
You will need a permit to bring your dog here!
I am a non resident since I don’t live in Newtown and it costs NULL for the whole year.
Permit required so it’s not a good fit if you’re passing through, as we were. That said, it looks very well maintained and clean. The adjacent wildlife refuge DOES allow leashed dogs and has lovely walking trails. You can reach it by continuing past the dog park on a narrow blacktop road to a small gravel parking area.

One of the nicest dog parks I’ve been to in CT! It’s a massive, fenced off park that features a paved section with fountains and sprinklers. It also has a large grassy area with ramps, hoops and tires for your pooch to play with and in. If you’ve got a smaller pup, they also have a separate fenced off area specifically for small dogs. Enjoy!
Large mostly grassy space.
Water fountains are available in the non-freezing seasons. Bags and trash available. There is also a water-spray feature for the warmer months.
The small dog side has a long, narrow entrance “chute”.
Technically there is a requirement to get a park permit from animal control (separate sign from the rules sign), but everyone told me that it’s mostly ignored.
People and dogs were all very friendly.
