Families love the spacious environment and convenient facilities, making this one of the best pet-friendly parks in Newport News for both recreation and relaxation.
Fantastic public park. Tons for kids to do and interesting insect/butterfly learning area to understand and respect nature. Park was very well taken care of and the grounds keeper even made sure to check if we had left an umbrella or belongings behind (even though they were not ours). We will be frequenting this area a lot in the future!
Nice and quiet. Good walkable trails. There’s playground equipment, small pavilions, and good green spaces. There’s a lot of construction going on right now but the tracks are perfectly usable. I notice many people bringing their dogs and there are lots of birds around which is nice. Also has a soccer area.
My 2 year old loves this park. I love that it has options for anyone. The walking trail, the skateboard park, soccer fields, picnic area, garden, and of course the huge park. The only downfall is that the area for toddlers are often bombarded my bigger kids and they push over the toddlers who try to play. However that’s no fault to the park itself
Decent, flat trails for elders within Riverview Farms main area. Lot of trees & flowers about. Newer Flax Mill trail does have slight sloping trails but manageable. Some seating is available near rivers edge areas = great views.
Riverview Farm Park is GREAT for families.
(There is currently some construction going on but nothing that should be a problem). It’s still open to the public.
All of it is family friendly / wheel chair accessible, stroller friendly/ pet friendly but pets must be on a leash).
For logistics:
The park closes at dusk (sun down). Enforced by Park Rangers.
It has its own, dedicated parking lot in the middle of the park, connecting 2 loops.
Loop 1 (to the right when entering):
There is a playground (nice for younger and older kiddos), restrooms, and a soccer field, with loop 1 surrounding it all.
Loop 2, to the left when entering, leads to the mini skatepark, the river view path and to the hill, and finally loops back to the parking lot.
The river is not directly visible from the park, but is only a short 5-10 minute, super easy hike, branching off from loop 2 before reaching the hill.
If you love nature, you will not want to miss it.
You can keep it short or you CAN turn it into a 3 mile hike/jogg (just along the river itself) You decide how far you go 🙂 There are Benches in between for resting/ enjoying the view.
The walk itself IS a wheelchair accessible; wooden; level to the ground, pier (see photos).
The pictures do not do it justice. It’s a blessing.
