If you’re looking for a truly unique dog-friendly experience in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, MI DOG – Michigan’s Summer Sled Dog Center in Newberry offers an incredible combination of learning, hands-on interaction, and fun! This family-friendly destination is not your typical dog park in Newberry — visitors get to cuddle and play with sled dog puppies, meet experienced adult sled dogs, and hear first-hand stories from renowned mushers about racing the Yukon Quest and Iditarod trails. It’s perfect for both kids and adults, and it’s highly recommended to book tickets in advance, especially during busy seasons.
At MI DOG, you’ll enjoy a rural outdoor setting (don’t forget the bug spray!), have the chance to interact with friendly animals, and learn about the world of dog sledding from passionate, knowledgeable staff. Whether you’re interested in a hands-on animal experience, want to educate your family about working dogs, or simply love pet-friendly adventures near Newberry, this center provides an affordable and memorable outing. While it’s not a traditional off-leash dog park, the activities focus on socialization and education, making it a one-of-a-kind spot for dog lovers.
My sister, 14 year old niece and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to MI Dog! We got to hold and cuddle with several puppies including a 6 week old cutie! Laura and her dad were easygoing and very knowledgeable. It was amazing to hear about her experiences in doing the Iditarod and Yukon Quest races!
This place is fun, affordable and educational – great for kids and adults! I left with a lot of information – dogs are not just amazing companions but also incredible athletes! The owner has many exciting stories to share from her time on the Yukon Trail & Iditarod Trail. and welcomes questions you might have. I made my reservation right on their Facebook page and paid when I got there. They do have bug spray on site or I recommend bringing your own, it is rural Michigan so mosquitos are to be expected. A great way to spend some time outdoors! We were there about two hours. We spent a fair amount of time just cuddling sweet pups. Run don’t walk and see this place for yourself!
We had a great time visiting this gem! If you’re in the area visiting, then you MUST stop in and visit. We had a blast learning about the history of dog sledding and not to mention learning about it from someone who has done it herself. Lauren was a great teacher, and then we had puppy time. There are so many cuddles and kisses. You’ll want to take one home. We will have to come back thru again sometime soon!
You get to pet SLED DOG PUPPIES!!! What is not to love! Laura has created an amazing place for her passion. The dogs are so happy and loving life. When she talks about her sledding adventures, she is always talking about her team. It was such an amazing experience. Do yourself a favor and stop by.
Extremely knowledgeable, skilled, and friendly staff! You can tell that she truly loves what she does and the animals. The puppies were adorable and we were offered to hold every single one of them! Getting to meet the actual sled dogs was also amazing. They’re so friendly and dog like! It’s hard to imagine the incredible things they have done and how they are true athletes! Definitely a must see when in the area!
