John V. Lindsay East River Park

John V. Lindsay East River Park is a vibrant urban park featuring stunning views of the East River, Queens and Brooklyn skylines, and iconic bridges. It offers a variety of amenities including a dog park with an enclosed large field for dogs to run off-leash, sports courts (basketball, soccer, tennis), playgrounds for kids, picnic areas with barbecue grills, public restrooms, and onsite parking. The park is wheelchair accessible and perfect for activities such as jogging, walking, fishing, picnicking, and sports. Despite ongoing construction, it remains a popular and well-loved spot in the Lower East Side.
Reviews
In all kinds of weather this park is the best. Whether you run, play sports, do body weight workouts, like fishing, have dogs, or just want to go for a walk or a picnic, this is the place to go on the Lower East Side. It will be even better when the track is finished in (hopefully) Fall 2018. I hope to see you out there having a blast!
Amazing views! Can’t wait until it’s fully open.
A small but mighty stretch of east river park. Not yet connected north or south to adjacent parks/promenades but nice section to have open. The basketball, soccer and tennis courts are super popular as well as the cushy grass and all the many seating areas. There’s a bbq area with grills for charcoal grilling and a spot for water to come up from the ground to cool off.
Access is a bit tricky with ongoing construction. The ramp starts on south Delancey before you reach FDR. The stairs at FDR isn’t quite done.
The park isn’t the biggest but still great either way. Fantastic view of the river and bridge + nice track to run on + open area to play sports or whatever you’re feeling.
Okay major construction as of Memorial Day 2025 has partitioned the north end of this park so take into consideration that’s up to a two star deduction for non-track users but normally… This entire East River esplanade has a view to die for whether your walking, jogging, riding, enjoying the track and fields, playgrounds, fishing, hanging out, socializing or watching others do any of the above. The river & it’s traffic, skylines of Queens & Brooklyn & their respective bridges in view are spectacular day or evening year round not to mention the seasonal blooms. I’m holding back the best photos I have accumulated of the river & skylines because I think interested parties should see for themselves. Best to pack a beverage(s), snack, or even picnic or barbecue, not to mention the kids, and even Fido (there’s an entire enclosed large field locals use as a dog run). It may not be a tourists primary destination, but it definitely rates a spot on ANYONE’S itinerary.
