Situated alongside the scenic East River, the East River Esplanade offers a peaceful escape from the bustle of Manhattan, featuring dog-friendly areas with gorgeous views of Roosevelt Island and the Long Island City skyline. This well-maintained park is perfect for pet owners seeking relaxing pet-friendly trails or simply a tranquil spot to unwind with their dog while enjoying the river breeze and sunrise vistas.
The dog park provides separate spaces for big and small dogs, ensuring safety and comfort for pups of all sizes. Wide, well-lit paved paths wind through the park, giving owners and their pets ample room for walking or running. Visitors will also find benches for seating and water fountains to keep everyone hydrated. The Esplanade is ideal for those looking for a dog park in New York, NY, that combines urban convenience with riverfront serenity.
Nice area to walk / bike. I started at 54th street and trough 71th street. In between their is 1 access (I think at 60th?), at the Red Sculpture in Andrew Haswell Park. There is also a dog park (separate for big and small dogs). At 71 and up is construction work so the esplanade is not available (maybe further up it is???). One big down side for walking: the noise of the highway traffic. Their a benches and water fountains. Did not see toilets?
Hiked East Midtown Greenway from East 54th street entrance to East 70th street and back. Walkways are brand new with lots of benches dotting the wavy path. Beautiful vistas of Long Island City and Roosevelt Island. That said, Hudson riverfront is still more attractive for strolling with more green space and farther distance from highway.
Good views of the East River and Long Island City skyline. It’s a good place to sit down and relax from all the walking in Manhattan. It’s not huge but enough space to get a beautiful view of the early morning sunrise.
Even at night time, it’s well lit pathway. Many people running and walking and sitting on bench chilling. East River just next to. Overlooking Roosevelt Island. Can enter via 81st street at East End Avenue.
A cop car seen to instill confidence.
A serene escape from the city life. Well maintained and well lit. Plenty of space for bikes, runners, and pedestrians. Great views.
