Unlike traditional dog parks, this unique venue showcases an extensive collection of dog art, historic displays, interactive exhibits, and heartfelt tributes to man’s best friend. It’s an ideal stop for anyone seeking to learn more about different dog breeds, explore engaging digital activities like ‘Train Your Dog’ and ‘What Dog Am I?’, or enjoy art and sculpture in a dog-loving environment. Local New Yorkers and visitors alike rave about the friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere.
This dog-friendly museum is climate-controlled, making it a comfortable retreat on hot days. With interactive displays, an extensive library, and a charming gift shop, this destination is more about celebrating the bond between people and dogs than providing an outdoor play space. While the AKC Museum of the Dog isn’t a traditional dog park with off-leash areas or exercise equipment, it’s perfect for families, dog enthusiasts, and anyone looking for an inspiring, educational outing in Midtown Manhattan.
I loved this museum. We got a free pass from the library and came to visit. They had lovely paintings and statues of various dogs. The 2 most heartfelt displays that really spoke to me were 1. On the 1st floor up near the ceiling, there are shadows of dogs walking. This really touched my heart. I could tell the ages of the dogs, how they were feeling by their tail wag and could almost hear the tap of their little nails on the floor. 2nd, a heartfelt display table set up on the 2nd floor honoring dogs that have passed. “Candles” were lit, photos of loved pups placed on the table and even a monitor with rotating photos of loved ones who submitted photos. *Gulp* I almost bursted out in ugly tears. We lost our Lady a couple of years ago and have a new pup, Pepper now, but the pain of my Lady’s passing is still raw. The dog museum is now definitely one of my favorite museums. ❤️🐶❤️
