Located just off the beaten path in New Lexington, the Perry County Dog Shelter is a warm and welcoming place for local dog lovers looking for pet adoption or to donate to a caring facility. Although it is a small shelter, visitors praise the devoted staff and volunteers who go above and beyond for the animals. They are well-known for their helpfulness and personal attention during the adoption process, making it a top spot for families seeking a new furry companion.
The shelter prides itself on being accessible, with both wheelchair-accessible entrances and parking lots, ensuring everyone can visit comfortably. The focus at this location is on caring for homeless dogs while providing a supportive and friendly environment for both pets and people alike. While not described as a typical dog park with fenced play areas or separate zones for different-sized dogs, the Perry County Dog Shelter is deeply rooted in the community, relying on donations and the generosity of local residents to continue their mission.
The gal who introduced us to our new best friend today was awesome…as is our new fur baby. The entire experience was perfect start to finish and I wholeheartedly recommend this shelter
We adopted Olave (Charlie) back in May. The warden spent a couple of hours with us as we made sure he would be a good fit for us and with our other dog because the staff was very fond of him. Finalizing the adoption process was very easy. Olave has a wonderful temperament and has been a great addition to our family.
This place was great! We decided to take a chance on a big ole boy who is a total sweet heart. We got there before close and they were so patient with us while making our decision. Best part (besides the dog) was they sent us home fully loaded with toys, collar, leash, food, and food bowls. They were so helpful and We plan to go through them next time we are interested in getting another pup. We hope to be able to donate to them one day to help pass along the blessings they gave us.
Took my dog for absolutely no reason left my girlfriend crushed then proceeded not to give us any legal documentation and she has the Perry county police department wrapped so far around her finger she honestly deserves to lose her job because not a single thing was wrong with my puppy and I’ve also heard other stories about this said dog warden she is bad news DO NOT ADOPT FROM THIS SHELTER
This shelter is very small off the beaten path but the warden and volunteers at this shelter truly love the dogs in their care and do the best they can with the minimal funds they get. They rely on donations to supplement the lack of money available to them and many of them pay medical bills for the dogs out of their own pockets!!
I thoroughly enjoyed collecting the truck load of donations for them. The young volunteers I met were so polite and expressed how appreciative they were for everything.
I hope their community will realize how lucky they are to have such devoted people caring for the homeless dogs in their area and put forth the effort to help in any way they can!!!
