Edgewood Park Dog Park – A Dog-Friendly Haven in New Haven, Connecticut

Nestled in the heart of Edgewood Park, Edgewood Park Dog Park is a convenient dog park in New Haven, CT where furry friends and their owners can enjoy a mix of freedom and socialization. The park features separate fenced areas for large and small dogs, double-gated entry for safety, and ample space for pets to run off-leash. While the area is a little overgrown and the front gate may need repairs, many locals appreciate having a dedicated place where dogs can roam and play safely. Pet-friendly hiking and walking trails surround the park, making it a great destination for those looking to extend their adventure beyond the fenced zones.

Visitors benefit from some simple amenities such as picnic tables and seating. There’s an orange water fountain with a dog-level spout near the adjacent skate park, and natural shade from the park’s trees. Being located within a larger city park, the spot is also good for families with kids. While some maintenance could be improved and the park could use better signage about ticks, Edgewood Park Dog Park remains a favored gathering spot for the New Haven dog community.

This place looks like it’s from Chernobyl. Overgrown, and completely intact. It’s very strange. But its still a place to let your dog room free.

This place needs a recent review. Double gate with large & small dog areas is great but front gate is broken. Everything is overgrown and the enclosed space isn’t that big. It could certainly be a bigger dog park considering there isn’t even a path to get to it. There should also be a sign to beware of ticks.

Went there for two yrs straight while my pup was growing up. Stayed outside more than inside as all the people with rescue dogs and zero knowledge how to deal with them would just go in and release. Great for walks on leash all around but be careful in the fenced area depending on who’s inside and what handle do they have on their dog.

This is a surprisingly good dog park. In my experience, most people pick up after their dogs, so you’re not too likely to wind up stepping in poop (or having a dog who rolled in it 😖), but still watch your step because there are a lot of holes dug by dogs. There’s a small area for small dogs, but it’s pretty boring and I’ve never seen anyone in it. The big dog area is pretty solidly fenced in, has some grass but a fair amount of dirt, some trees, and a picnic table. Nothing fancy, but my dog loves getting the chance to run free and chase her friends.

There’s also an orange water fountain nearby, on the edge of the skate park, with a bottom fountain for dogs. I included a picture.
