Located in the scenic coastal community of New Harbor, Maine, Pemaquid Beach is a favorite local spot celebrated for its stunning white sand, well-kept trails, and pristine waters. This dog-friendly location offers a unique blend of beach and woods, featuring a compact, relaxing shoreline, as well as accessible nature trails through meadows and forests. With beautiful views of the ocean and estuary, plenty of wildlife, and easy access from parking to the beach, it’s ideal for quick getaways or leisurely outdoor adventures with your pup.
Pemaquid Beach stands out for its clean, low-crowd experience and family-friendly amenities like restrooms, accessible ramps, and a seasonal snack bar. The pet-friendly trails are perfect for dog owners who enjoy hiking, birdwatching, or simply exploring the natural beauty of Midcoast Maine. While the park offers easy access and gentle terrain, remember that some areas may be wet after rain and bug spray is recommended during the warmer months. Whether you’re coming for a swim, a trail walk, or a seaside picnic, Pemaquid Beach is a must-visit for pet lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike in the New Harbor region.
We visited in September so there were no staff working the day we went to Pemaquid Beach. The snack bar and ticket office were closed and there were no lifeguards. The beach had not been raked so it had the usual seaweeds and shells along the high tide line. The beach area was compact but there was plenty of room for the visitors and dunes and private property were clearly marked. Though seagulls are numerous and aggressive on Maine beaches (and worse at Pemaquid) we saw few while we were there and assume that they come when the snack bar is open. This is a great option for all ages with handicapped parking close to the beach and a gentle ramp from there to the sand. Bring your chairs and drinks and enjoy the beach for playing, swimming, or watching the birds and boats pass by. While Pemaquid is not as big as Popham or Reid State Park it is also not as crowded and access to the beach from the parking lot is far easier at Pemaquid. This is recommended for families and especially for folks with mobility issues. Check it out!
What a great beach very clean people are friendly. They have food hot and cold also changing rooms, bathrooms and a gift shop.
Visited this beach during 4th of July weekend. Arrived around 11, it was busy but we had no issues with parking and finding a spot on the beach.
They have food and chairs/umbrellas for rent. I loved the fresh lemonade from the food stand.
They have bathrooms where you can rinse off and change.
We will be back!
Everything is so clean! The bathrooms, the beach, with white sand, and the water! Easy on the feet cuz there are no rocks! They have a snack bar… Beautiful place!
