Walter S. Commerdinger, Jr. County Park is a scenic hidden gem for pet owners looking for dog-friendly hiking near Nesconset, New York. This park offers a serene, natural setting with rugged, unpaved trails ideal for dog walkers wanting a peaceful escape. The walking paths wind through wooded areas and even connect to nearby Lily Pond Park Trail, giving you and your canine companion the option for a longer outdoor adventure.
This park is a favorite among those seeking a less crowded walking spot with natural beauty. While there are no fenced dog runs, playgrounds, or restrooms, dog owners enjoy the expansive trails and pet-friendly atmosphere. Just be prepared for minimal amenities—bring your own water, waste bags, and bug repellent, especially after rain. Parking can be a bit tricky, and the park is mostly untouched and rustic, making it perfect for nature lovers and energetic dogs.
Just a heads up, was here the other day, and there seemed to be a guy that was walking by talking to himself, and he seemed to ” not be completely right in the head” for lack of better words. When he walked past me, he walked behind the white house and he seemed to be hiding because he stopped in his two tracks behind the house where I saw his shoes but nothing else. He didn’t want me knowing he was there and he was watching me. But it’s like, dude. I saw you walk past me, I know you’re there. So what are you hiding? And why do you not want me to see you as you watch me? If you walk here by yourself, whether male or female, just be aware that there could be the homeless people or perhaps drug addicts, that walk in this park. Be very careful.
4.5 Parking to go in is a little difficult but overall a nice walking spot! If you are into a more rugged park that’s less popular this one is nice! A little spooky but not in the bad way we had fun seeing where each turn lead!
Interesting piece of property. Love checking out the history if the area. Anyone know what Lily Pond was used for?
This is a nice area to walk but be advised, there are no picnic facilities, playgrounds, or restroom area.
The trail is beautiful but be sure to use plenty of bug repellent
Nice park. Hidden 2 mile trail not on the map. Not marked that but easy to follow and easily passable in most places even after a heavy rain. I also recommend Lily Pond Park Trail which is nearby and accessible if you don’t mind walking across timbers laid across a shallow stream. Both together are about 2.3 miles depending on which trails you take.
