Located in picturesque Mt Sinai, the Cedar Beach Nature Center offers a unique blend of coastal beauty, educational experiences, and pet-friendly amenities. This is a favorite spot for dog owners seeking scenic trails and relaxing views along Harbor Beach Rd. The park features a wooden boardwalk and paved walkways that invite visitors and their furry friends to explore maritime forests and observe local wildlife. Benches are available along the routes, giving you plenty of opportunities to pause, enjoy the sunset, and soak in the tranquil ambiance.
Friendly to both pets and people, Cedar Beach Nature Center is not only a hub for nature lovers, but also runs engaging, hands-on classes about marine life. There are plentiful parking spaces (permit required for frequent visits), and the park is known for being well maintained. Whether you’re stopping by for live music, a relaxing walk, or one of the center’s educational programs, this dog-friendly destination is an excellent option for families and pet owners looking for things to do in Suffolk County.
Wonderful hidden gem at Cedar Beach! Whether you are already at the beach and just need a little break from lying in the sun, or whether you’re not much of a beach-goer but enjoy being near the water and/or going for walks, this place is for you! A paved walkway through assorted beach foliage keeps you away from the cars and out of the sand while you enjoy a lovely walk as well as the sunset (or sunrise)! Signs are posted along the way educating you about the different plants and animals that live in the area and if you just want to stop and enjoy the view, there are plenty of benches on your route. On our recent visit we saw assorted birds, rabbits, a family of deer, and even a turtle! Often there will be people flying kites or playing Frisbee on the beach. There is even a painted rock section where you are encouraged to take a rock with you and leave it in another public location for others to find – or of course, leave your own painted rock! (See “Suffolk County ROCKS © – Long Island Official page” on Facebook for more info!) Been coming here for years. Highly recommend!
Wooden boardwalk loop starting at nature center provides access to maritime forest. Beautiful photo opportunities…
Nicole was an excellent instructor. The information in her lesson will forever be memorable. The touch tanks and seineing the harbor were so much fun. Definitely hands-on -learning. I highly recommend taking a class with Nicole or just visiting the Nature Center. There is so much information about our harbor, beaches and marine life.
Buy your town parking permit online if you visit more than once. Peak times can have a mile long line to get in but lots of parking and live music most nights if you like that. Quiet spots too if that’s more your thing.
