Nice mowing job! I visited on a especially hot July day – but was finally happy to see the rocks! (I didn’t go out on the walking path across the prairie to see the rocks in the distance) but there was plenty of rocks by the visitors center! I enjoyed talking to the lady in the store who told me about scampering across the field as a child, and the joy of finally getting the land as public access for all to enjoy! Really a lovely spot, and she encouraged me to climb around on the rocks (which is rare to do in Kansas.. well, there’s no rocks in my home area) I’m glad I came, and will keep encouraging others to do the same! I also respectfully seeing the mounds on the way to the destination, and I stopped by Gene’s Heartland Foods in Minneapolis, KS to grab a cool drink & a/c! (and because I have a Gene’s in my hometown as well!)
We happened on Rock City Park when traveling through the area and we’re do glad we stopped…

We enjoyed seeing the ancient rocks. My 8 year old grandson enjoyed climbing on them. I recommend taking a friend their age. Someone to play with would have made it more enjoyable for him. It was cool seeing names that had been carved into the stones more than 100 years ago. He really enjoyed the experience of crawling through the donut hole rock. I recommend going on a cooler day and take plenty of water. We drove over to Minneapolis pool and cooled down afterwards.
This park was a great diversion on our trip right outside of Salina. It’s privately owned and takes Venmo or cash.
The formations here are amazing and kids can feel daring as they scramble over the rocks that vary in height from a couple of feet to over a dozen feet high.
Finding different signatures carved in the rocks from over a hundred years ago is neat.
The small gift shop has free popsicles for the kids and a lot of historical documents and articles about the park.
The bathrooms are clean and there is a large covered picnic area if you come with a big group.
Fun stop. NULL admission paid via venmo. Lots of large rocks you can climb ( at your own risk) . There also trails but we didn’t do them
