FAQ for Railway Tunnel at Cherry Run Road in Millmont Pennsylvania:
I’ve only walked this trail in the fall and never gone to the end of it. With the fall colors it’s a nice hike and it’s flat as far as I’ve gone.
Farther from my house than Google maps originally stated, plus had to drive mountain roads to get there which made it take a bit longer, but the drive was scenic and so was the hike. I think it would have been better to bike it, but my boyfriend and I had fun either way. He was able to fish at a few points along the trail also so if you enjoy fishing, bring a rod if you don’t mind carrying it while you hike!
Beautiful nature area. BUT be extra cautious of rattle snakes. We walk this trail several times a year and this past year two in our party almost stepped on one a little over 4 feet long that was curled up along the edge of the path hidden in leaves.
You cannot get to this by using the gps in your phone. You can get to Cherry run Rd by your phone but not the trail and tunnel. Follow cherry run Rd to the end, turn right, it says dead end but take it anyway. You will come to a clearing and you can park there. There is no sign that says cherry run trail. The trail is to the right beside the old railroad path. It takes about 20 minutes by bike and 45 minutes by walking until you get to the tunnel. It is a beautiful nature walk or ride. We biked it but it is pretty bumpy.
This is one of the safest and interesting things to explore. There is so much history. This is also the start of the Pine Creek rail trail that goes ten miles into a parking lot in Milroy. Well worth the ten mile gravel road we had to drive to get there.
