very rugged challenging trails. very diverse and beautiful. lots of streams, wildflowers, rhododenron stands….and, don’t forget to climb the tower for a view.
This trail is pretty neat. The trail head is going to be on the west end of the parking lot. Just be careful be cat he rocks get slippery. It is a two mile hike round trip. There isn’t much elevation gain as well. But the trail is well marked and comes out right on the fire tower!
Nice and well defined trails, no grand views on the High Point or Shelter Rock trails, but a beautiful and quiet forested area.
It’s around a mile walk to the high point. The trail starts just west of the parking, and is easy going, with mild gradients up and down. The latter half of the trail almost turns into a little brook, and you need to stay off to the edge to keep out of the mud. The tower at the high point offers great views all around, though you can’t see the lake. It’s usually windy atop the tower.
Absolutely loved it. The fire tower definitely gives an amazing view of the trees and there’s quite a few historical facts on the rocks near the fire tower.
