If you’re searching for a scenic dog-friendly park in McLean, Virginia, Langley Oaks Park is a quiet haven with winding trails, lush forest vibes, and access points to creeks and the Potomac River. This park is a true hidden gem – the best entrance is between 748 and 750 Ridge Road, slightly around the corner from the main posted address. Known for its peaceful wooded paths, creek crossings, and flourishing wildlife, it’s a top spot for dog-friendly hiking and family adventures close to DC. While the park’s natural landscape is a major draw, it’s especially picturesque in spring and summer, offering pet-friendly trails that both you and your pup will love to explore.
The park also features turf soccer fields, basketball courts, a community garden, and a variety of trails with access to beautiful river views, waterfalls, and natural rock formations. There is free parking, though spaces can be limited on weekends, and amenities like portable toilets are available (with possible future upgrades to restrooms). Langley Oaks Park does not have a designated fenced dog run or off-leash dog area – dogs should remain on-leash for their safety and the safety of local wildlife. If you’re seeking a natural, less crowded alternative for dog walking and hiking, especially in the warmer months, this McLean dog park is a must-visit destination.
Beautiful park when we visited in late spring, quiet with creeks full of fun critters for the kids. Still can hear dogs barking from nearby houses and planes from Reagan, but very “woods” feeling for so close to DC. Actual entrance is 750 Ridge Dr. (See photo).
Langley Oaks park is a hidden gem! Accessing it from Turkey Run park (off the GW Parkway) is easy.
This park seems barren and unusable once the leaves fall in November. County hunters are permitted to hunt from mid-Sept into Feb and the signs advise you to stay on the trail, however the trails are completely hidden under the leaves with no visible markers to safely use the park, especially with kids. Creek beds were dry (as many are in this area sometimes). We turned back and went to Pimmet Run Stream Valley Park and that was more fun for us this time of year. I hope we can try this one again in the spring.
Actual entrance: between houses 748/750 Ridge road McLean.
We have found the entrance to this hidden gem and it’s around the corner from where the address indicates. My kids have thoroughly loved these trails and the walk up and down through the creek bed. It’s filled with toads, minnows, and beautiful views.
It’s a bit of a hidden gem; fairly quiet in winter months. After yet another storm access was restricted from fallen trees across the path but with some perseverance we got through to discover the barer version of winter woodlands.
