Bloody Run County Park, located in the scenic outskirts of McGregor, Iowa, is a peaceful escape for outdoor lovers and their canine companions. Known for its beautiful, primitive campsite settings and trout fishing in the creek, this dog-friendly park offers a taste of nature without the distractions of overcrowding or modern amenities. Pet-friendly hiking trails wind through mossy rock outcroppings, providing excellent opportunities for dog walking and adventure in a tranquil setting.
While there are no off-leash dog areas or fenced spaces specifically designed for pets, dogs are welcome throughout the park and on trails when leashed. Campers and day visitors will find basic restrooms in the form of porta potties and vault toilets, but there are no running water sources or shower facilities at the campground, so plan to bring your own supplies for your pet. With streams, fishing spots, and plenty of shade, Bloody Run is a top pick for dog lovers looking for natural, low-key fun in Northeast Iowa’s Clayton County.
The park and campground are beautiful! When we arrived, there were no campers in the large campgrounds. It was amazing; very peaceful and quiet. Trout fishing was excellent. The creek was beautiful, with large pools separated by fast-moving riffles.
Then between 1:00AM and 2:00 AM arrived. A train (sometimes two back to back) would arrive and load
Then, when it left, it blew its horn excessively and repeatedly!
Other than the train(s), the pit toilets, and lack of showers, it was a perfect place to camp!

nice place to camp and fish. Sites near the stream can get crowded. Outhouses are small. Water and firewood available. Caseys pizza nearby in case of (kid) emergency.

Really nice campsite. Has no amenities besides port a potties. Had to bring in water too. Stayed in campsite 20 and loved it. Had a screech owl come visit at night and saw a young eagle the next morning. Saw fish in the creek and people fishing. Quiet area even though by the train. There are hiking trails nearby.

This park has some beautiful camping sites along the creek. The all looked primitive – no water or electrical hookups. No shower house from what I saw and only vault toilets and porta potties. The hiking trail is a bit challenging but beautiful – moss covered rock outcroppings, overlooks. So happy I took a chance on it. Will go again as there is more to explore.
