🐾 Kids at the Dog Park: Real Stories, Safety Risks & Smarter Solutions
If you’ve spent time at an off-leash park, you’ve probably seen it:A parent strolls in with a stroller 🚼 or […]
Mashpee Dog Park, located at 156 Ashumet Rd in Mashpee, MA, offers a convenient place for local dog owners to let their pets socialize and play off-leash. This dog park features three distinct areas: one for elderly dogs, one for smaller dogs, and a central space for medium to large dogs, making it inclusive for pups of all sizes. Regular visitors appreciate the friendly atmosphere amongst both dogs and owners, making it a popular spot for consistent playgroups.
Visitors will find amenities such as an on-site water spout for dogs, multiple trash cans, poop bag dispensers (though sometimes these run empty), and ample parking. There is bench seating, although some guests wish for more shade and additional benches in certain spots. While the park is mostly graveled and lacks a paved walking path or much natural shade, its accessibility features—including wheelchair access and accessible parking—make it inviting for everyone. If you’re seeking a dog-friendly outing on Cape Cod, Mashpee Dog Park is a well-sized, fenced spot that allows your dog to run free and mingle with new friends.
Overall a great park. Only downside to this park is that it really could use a different style of turf but it offers an on-site waterspout for the dogs to drink out of and trash cans to dispose of poo bags as well as extra poop bag dispensers. A pretty large amount of bench seating as well as three sections for the dogs to choose between one for elderly dogs, one for smaller dogs and a larger central pen for a mix of both as well as medium and large dogs. The regular visitors are kind and create a great consistent play group.
Could use more benches on the other side but otherwise a very nice park
I’m Cape Cod Clancy, dog park critic.
Needless to say, my medium is body language, barks and key words. My well-trained, faithful human is typing but dog parks are for dogs. Right? it’s my time, my opinion.
From the trunk of my SUV I smell Mashpee trees and other hounds. I’m so excited I howl. The instant the leash pulling my carer is unclipped and the gate opens I’m wild dog, free to run and cavort, greet and grapple with my species.
I’m a gentle golden yet frat house ebullient, 99% wolf though who’s counting; rush into the pack flipping a chihuahua, pawing an aggrieved husky.
Mashpee’s fine: sociable pooches, welcoming people who pick up their poo. No perimeter walking path, bipeds stand near the entrance; hope they don’t get snappy. We race through the gravel, much better than a boring walk around the block. Dog parks are our safe arenas, town halls, public libraries, Disneyland, a mini-vacation. They are all Five Star. I’m canine, what do you expect from me? Must we spend our lives at home retrieving shoes, waiting for dinner (whoopee do, kibble again) or a treat?
There’s plenty of parking, not much shade or seating. Mashpee is probably underfunded. I don’t care. Thank you for the excursion.
Amazing size but not well kept. People are not good at picking up poop. A reason could be that poop bag canisters are empty. The park design is problematic. The human area is on both sides of the entrance. Dogs that have a strong protection drive go into attack mode when new dogs or humans enter. Need to set up human areas away from entrance.
Good sized space, but not much shade. All of the people and dogs stayed clustered right around the entrance.
Peastone ground cover, water bubblers, bags, and trash. People were a mixed bag – not the friendliest park I’ve visited.
