Shotgun Creek Recreation Site is a scenic destination near Marcola, Oregon, ideal for dog owners who love pet-friendly outdoor adventures. This spacious park features a network of dog-friendly hiking trails winding through peaceful natural settings with picturesque creek views. While the terrain can be rough and rocky in places, these trails are perfect for active dogs and owners seeking a bit of exercise and tranquility away from crowded urban dog parks.
The park offers a range of amenities including large picnic shelters with fireplaces, plenty of shaded picnic areas, and a vast open field suitable for sports and play. While there is no specific off-leash or fenced dog area, leashed dogs are welcome throughout the trails and outdoor spaces. A crystal-clear creek provides a beautiful backdrop, with a designated swimming area (though dogs are not allowed in this spot). Parking, paved paths, and both recreational and relaxation opportunities make this a favorite leisure spot for local dog owners. A $5 day-use fee applies; bring cash as the digital pay machine may not always work reliably.
A beautiful Park that’s never crowded or full of people, which is my favorite kind of Park. Fairly rough hiking but no climbing. Just up and down hills on rocky narrow paths.

Shotgun creek in the spring snow. Feb 29, 2024. Came out for some much needed tranquility. Boy did Mother Nature 🌬️ provide! Great day and can’t wait to come back when it’s warm for a dip! 🤙 Leap day!

Perfect little hiking area with a various length trails. Decently maintained. Might be a bit a bit hard for kids, but it was doable for my active spouse who has arthritis. Took Tiki trail. Brought the dog. No “viewpoint” but a nice view of the creek from above. The swimming area was empty when we stopped by. No dogs allowed in there, but my husband said the water is “warm creek” temp. Not far from town but we didn’t hear much road noise except the occasional car on the park route. Definitely worth the NULL day fee. Bring cash. The digital machine just kept saying “initializing system.” But the park was wonderful and really big. Been up past here with the four wheelers to ride ages ago. Plan on doing so again soon. The Cascade View area up the road has a nice “summit” as well.
