Breslin Field is a historic baseball/multi purpose field that goes back more than 50 years. It has hosted hundreds of sporting events through the years, most famously the Original Metropolitan League playoffs, a league which lasted nearly four decades that featured over 300 players who played both minor and Major League ball. Most famous among the Met League alumni were pitchers Jim Bouton and John Montefusco ( who was signed by the San Francisco Giants right in the parking lot after pitching a shutout for the Clifton Phillies). Future Yankee Dan Pasqua also featured in the league. So many great teams in that league, Clifton Phillies, Emerson-Westwood Merchants, Hackensack Troasts, Wayne A’s, Ridgefield Park Orioles, Clifton Aamco, Saddle Brook Colonials, and more. I also have seen some great Legion Ball there, including two classic matchups in regional finals between two of the dominant teams, Boyerstown, Pa, and Brooklawn, NJ.
Some college and high school baseball games take place here as well, and off and on, going back to at least the late 1960s some regional semi pro football league teams have called Breslin Field home.
The field itself was grass for many years, but has been resurfaced to field turf a few years ago. For fans, the stands offer good sight lines higher up, with a high protective fence all around. There are rest rooms underneath the press box.
If I have one down point about the ballpark, and having done Public Address work in here on many occasions, it’s that the sound system here is one of the more annoying systems to work on. An internal wiring short causes the loudspeakers to scratch out rather loudly, causing considerable consternation for the fans.
All told, this historic venue has a lot of nostalgia to it, and I hope you will have the chance to see a game here sometime.
