If you’re searching for an unforgettable dog park in Lubbock, Texas, Prairie Dog Town is a must-visit destination. Situated within MacKenzie Park, this pet-friendly spot offers visitors the rare opportunity to observe and interact with local prairie dogs in their natural habitat. The park is well-known for its friendly wildlife, making it a popular stop for families and pet owners exploring the area.
While Prairie Dog Town provides a spacious, natural setting with pet-friendly trails and wide open spaces, it is important to note the focus is on the unique wildlife rather than traditional dog park amenities. It’s a great spot for those looking to combine dog-friendly outdoor fun with a bit of local wildlife watching. Remember to bring healthy snacks like carrots to feed the prairie dogs (from a respectful distance, of course) and enjoy the relaxed, scenic atmosphere of one of Lubbock’s most beloved outdoor attractions.
My husband & I stopped here to check it out. We were definitely surprised to see all the Prairie Dogs! Fascinating little creatures. Take the time to read the placards – great info!

There use to be some seating under the pavilion that is no longer there. We took some seeds to feed the prairie dogs, they enjoyed it!

This was a fun random stop! I highly recommend it. Bring carrots or something healthy to feed to these cute little critters. They’re not tame by any means but it’s super fun to listen to them and watch them eat. Pristine dogs are not confined to the little area that was established for them and instead have spread out and taken over the entire park and lots of the surrounding neighborhoods. Definitely worth a stop off if you’re going through Lubbock.
