Located just outside of Logan, Ohio, Boch Hollow State Nature Preserve’s North Trailhead offers a tranquil escape into nature with pet-friendly hiking trails suitable for families and outdoor enthusiasts. This scenic area is renowned for its lush woods, diverse plant and fungi life, and multiple trails ranging from easy to challenging, making it a perfect destination for those looking to experience less crowded alternatives to popular locations like Hocking Hills. The preserve is easy to access with dedicated parking, and accessible hiking options are available for wheelchair users and families with children.
Dog owners will appreciate the preserve’s welcoming stance on leashed pets, providing an ideal spot for on-leash dog hikes through rich forested areas with plenty of shade and beautiful views. While there are no fenced or off-leash areas, the abundance of natural trails and peaceful routes make this a wonderful place for walking dogs on a leash. Please note that cell service tends to be limited in the area, and while the park is designed with families in mind—offering kid-friendly hikes and being good for kids—pet owners should ensure their dogs are leashed during their visit.
This nature preserve was beautiful. My group & I attended their wildflower hike on April 27th and it was very informative and it was nice to learn a little before we took our longer hike. There are a good amount of trails and plenty to see and do. If you do not want the hustle & bustle of Hocking Hills State Park, this is the place for you.
Beautiful hike with an amazing assortment of Fungi, plants, flowers, and tress. There are a few smalls hills up and down but nothing extreme. GPS took us right to the parking area, but be mindful cell service is almost nonexistent out that way.
This Nature Preserve has three different entrances and so many possible options for trail configurations that you can put together a short or a longer jaunt. It is quiet and simply delightful to walk amid the trees and as it is out of the way you don’t typically encounter people.
Large nature preserve with four different trailheads not including Robinson Falls (permit required). Each section seems to have it’s own distinct characteristics that makes for a fun but sometimes challenging hike. The preserve is outside of what might be considered the Hocking Hills Region but still a very scenic area.
What a beautiful area, just outside of Logan, for a nice hike! There’s a dam, a pretty steep hill, rocks, caves, lots of beautiful views.
One BIG downfall tho… There’s a sign that says ‘no dogs..’ why on earth any hiking area would allow no dogs is beyond me. Hopefully they decide to change that… Dogs are a huge part of hiking for people.
