This ample parking area is the entry point for a extensive spider web of trails in the southern Catskills. The nearby trails are often travelled and well marked, but those further west are tougher to follow. Make sure to obtain a printed map before arriving or taking a picture of the trailhead map, as there is very limited cell service here. There are no other amenities. There aren’t any real scenic attractions here, though the ponds are nice to look at. It is possible to connect to the trails north of Mongaup Pond and on into Willowemoc Wild Forest. Many of these gentle trails were designed for snowmobiles, but get limited use these days. They are suitable for XC skiing and mountain biking.

The trail to Frick Pond from the parking area is a easy well used trail. Its a picture perfect pond that drains into a stream underneath a footbridge. There is a decent sized parking area with a map showing the different trails. There are no restrooms or potable water at this location. I suggest taking a picture of the map at the parking lot because there are a bunch of trails that intersect with each other. It will be helpful to have so you don’t get confused when on the trails.Once you pass Frick Pond the trails are much less used and not well maintained. There are differing trails that will bring you to different locations. This is where having a picture of the map comes in handy, so you know where you are going. These trails can be muddy and very buggy in the summer. I usually don’t use bug spray, but I had to stop and put it on while using this trail, and hiking boots are a must have. There are not major elevation changes here, so you are not huffing and puffing up and down big hills, which makes this an easier hike. The trails have beautiful scenery and you will enjoy the hike.
