Gatton Park on the Town Branch is a vibrant, pet-friendly green space in the heart of Lexington, Kentucky. This newly established park features open green areas, scenic walking trails, and a dedicated dog park area with several gated sections, making it a go-to destination for local dog owners. Wheelchair and stroller accessible paths ensure that everyone, including those with mobility limitations, can enjoy the park comfortably. The park regularly hosts free community events, adding to the welcoming atmosphere and making visits especially lively.
The dog park offers a secure, gated environment for dogs to play and exercise off-leash, and there appear to be options for agility or obstacle courses. Shaded areas and plenty of seating provide comfort for owners, and water access is available nearby. While parking is somewhat limited and can involve a short walk or the use of nearby paid downtown garages, the park’s numerous amenities—including playgrounds, splash areas, and picnic spots—make it a rewarding location for families and their furry friends. Gatton Park stands out for its community focus and variety of outdoor activities near downtown Lexington.
What a Great Park. Although Gatton park is a new addition to the Lexington area, I believe that it adds so much to the community. There is so much green space along with places to sit and enjoy the green space! The walking trail is great for people who want to walk or run. I especially like all of the events that are put on at the park. The park hosts work out classes, farmers markets, movie nights, and story times. Most of the events are compliantly free to attend which is something that I really appreciate. Having the events be free allows more of the public to attend and engage in the community. The one thing that does make me not want to visit is the parking situation. With Gatton being a new park to the Lexington area the parking situation has not been fully established yet. Right now there are two small areas for parking, but one of them is on top of a very steep hill which could pose an issue for people who have smaller cars. However the parking situation will not deter me from visiting this park.
Parking is the only reason this park got 4 stars. Its a walk to get to the park, no matter where you park, but once you get to the park, its worth it! Physics based water play w/a dam system, several ways to climb, obstacles to traverse, climbing tower with a fast slide, a shell-shaped timeline, swinging benches, etc! We were there 2 hours and only left bc we were hungry! My crew, ages 5-12, all had a blast! Thanks, Lex!
We visited Gatton Park on the Town Branch yesterday, and my son had a wonderful time! The park is clean, open, and very family-friendly. There’s plenty of space for kids to run, play, and explore. It’s a great spot for families to spend an afternoon outdoors. Highly recommend!
Beautiful park to visit. Direct parking is minimal, but if you pay for downtown garage parking, there is wheelchair and stroller access into park. There is a concession stand for live venues, but there is also areas for mobile kitchens to serve you. The concert area has green area to picnic at each level. The dog park has many gated areas and what looks like option for obstacle course. The children play area looks a blast with a super tall slide and splash pad. Lots of areas to have a picnic. There was also a little book nook full of children’s books if you wanted to read to your young one, and some advanced reading if you choose. There are signs of sector numbers and address in the park to let emergency people know how to find you should the need arise. There is also direct, underpass access to Manchester Music Hall and other venues down that street, opposite the Rupp Arena. There is reasonable walking access to Town Branch Distillery which would make for a great hangout activity afterwards. It also looks like you can reserve areas for private parties. I was impressed by the wheelchair/stroller access and swing benches that people of all sizes could use.
This park is such a great addition to Lexington! It’s got a fun playground, splash park, walking trail, dog park, a little reading area, and even a stage for entertainment. The only downside for me is the parking—it feels a bit limited and not the most convenient, especially for parents with younger kids.
