Sawmill Run Trailhead is a hidden gem for nature lovers and pet owners searching for dog-friendly hiking near Lehighton, Pennsylvania. While not a traditional fenced dog park, this scenic spot offers about a mile-long loop trail that follows a beautiful stream and passes waterfalls created from an old mill pond. The terrain varies from smooth and easy paths to steeper, more challenging sections, providing an adventurous outing for both dogs and their owners. The trail features tree canopies for shade, benches for rest, and stunning views that make every walk memorable.
Though the park is best suited for leashed dogs due to some narrow and slanted sections close to the creek, it’s an excellent place for well-behaved pups to experience nature. There is plenty of parking available, paved paths at the start, grassy walking loops, and access to open fields. Besides the trails, the larger park area also has playgrounds for kids, courts, picnic areas, and pavilions, making this an all-around pet-friendly destination for families and outdoor enthusiasts.

Sawmill Run Trailhead is a Hidden Gem of a hiking trail. Not the longest trail only a mile or so but quite beautiful as it follows the Stream all the way out and back. The trail is a loop that passes some man-made waterfalls from an Old Mill reserved Pond as well as an old slate Quarry. The first half of the trail is quite easy and is a smooth path however after you get to the Midway Point crossing a bridge the path back is a little more treacherous and steep. If you are a novice or worried about your footing you might want to just turn around but if not definitely worth the loop.

Great trail. I did a trail run here and did the ~2 mile loop 3 times to get the distance I needed. A bit tricky at times but the trail was marked well and it was gorgeous. The waterfalls were quite nice.

Very nice trail but I brought my 3 year old and dog, would not recommend small children here. It’s not a HARD trail but some parts are extremely narrow and close to the creek, and very slanted terrain with no rails. Great without kids though, the waterfall was amazing.
