My kids play sports through the rec, and we love it. They have such a great time.
We go walking here around the track. Three laps is a mile. They have a playground, too. 4 baseball fields, soccer fields, and lots of space for kids to run around. They are dog friendly as long as you bring a bag for poop and keep them on a leash. They have a pond to where you can sit and watch ducks and geese swim.

While the parking leaves a lot to be desired, the ballfields are excellent. The wireless scoreboard consoles at each field is a nice touch. This is the only park I have been to in the past 5 years that has had consistent scoreboard operations.
