Fort Steilacoom Large Dog Park is one of the most spacious and popular destinations for dogs and their owners in Lakewood, Washington. Located within the expansive Fort Steilacoom Park, this dog park offers immense areas for your pup to roam, run, and socialize. The park is fully fenced and features three separate, secure areas for different dog sizes and play styles, making it a fantastic choice for dog owners seeking a safe, dog-friendly space in Pierce County.
Amenities at Fort Steilacoom include a central covered pavilion, benches, water stations, agility equipment, and plenty of shaded zones for hot days. The nearby restrooms, easy parking, and access to well-maintained walking trails make it an excellent destination for families looking for a pet-friendly outing. With wide open spaces, diverse terrain, and dog-owner etiquette signs, this park stands out as a must-visit spot for anyone seeking the ultimate off-leash experience and dog-friendly hiking in Lakewood.
I want to love it because they even have signs explaining etiquette, and there are three (yes, three!) different fenced areas. But we had a bad experience with an entitled and ignorant dog owner and narrowly avoided a dog fight with a big dog. Ended up waiting hours for an opportunity to use the small dog run, but there are cliques and groups that hold seniority here.
If the people are nice and responsible, it seems like an awesome place. If not, you might give up waiting.
My favorite dog park. Beau loves coming here! A LOT OF ROOM FOR YOU AND YOUR PUPS!!! Beau loves interacting with other dogs, and chasing the ball. There has always been water under the cover for all the active ones.
This place is huge. Nearby restrooms are clean. The walking areas are well maintained. The terrain is diverse and there is plenty of shaded areas. Parking is usually easy. We’ve been to dogs parks all over Pierce, King and Thurston counties and this is our favorite!
Absolutely love going to this park. There is so much space for our Aussie to run around, and 3 separate areas for dogs to run around in. There are restrooms nearby and plenty of parking. There are also water stations in both the large and medium areas, as well as a central gazebo in the large park with bowls and water jugs (filled by park goers). Not all dog owners here are as responsible as they should be, but overall a great experience every time.
This park is so massive there could be a full parking lot and there is still plenty of space to play with your pup. There’s a pavilion, a few benches, some trees and open spaces, and a little agility course. Personally, I haven’t had any issues with aggressive dogs. But the park is so big it’s really easy to stay away from other dogs and people if that is a concern.
