Short and steep. About 1.8 miles each way. It gets rocky towards the top, and can get slippery, especially going down. Tower cab is closed – stairs are open – view is pretty nice. There us a privy at the trail head.

This trail head gives access to both Pillsbury mountain and the French Louie loop trail. The dirt road in is long but well maintained. We hiked to Cedar Lakes for a 2 night camp. Beautiful area with lots of capmping options. The trailhead parking was ample but unsurprisingly full, since the weather was perfect. Privvy @ the parking area is clean and close.

Great steep hike! You start off going down to the creek and across a bridge, then it climbs up sharply for most of the 1.6 miles. Trail was very wet and muddy so be careful on the way down. Fire tower was closed at the very top and pad locked. No fencing half way up the tower so be aware. Took 35 minutes to reach the top going 2.8 miles/hrs, aggressive rate. Views were spectacular from 3/4 up tower.
