Located right on the scenic Kern River, Riverside Park is a gem for both nature enthusiasts and dog owners in Kernville, California. This pet-friendly park offers beautiful river views, clean grounds, and a welcoming atmosphere. It’s a great destination for those seeking dog-friendly hiking or a leisurely riverside stroll with their furry friends. The park is renowned for its tranquil setting, well-maintained picnic spots, and close proximity to local shops and eateries.
Amenities at Riverside Park include accessible picnic tables, barbecue grills, a playground for kids, public restrooms, and plenty of comfortable seating. Dogs are welcome at the park (leashed), making it an excellent spot for families to relax, fish, or even enjoy some river activities like tubing or wading along the shore. With its riverside location and clean facilities, Riverside Park stands out as a top dog park in Kernville and a popular gathering place for locals and visitors alike.
We went here to try and do some tubing, as the local tour companies were not offering due to water levels being too high, but a local store owner recommended our first time tubing to be with a professional company that provides the helmet, lifejacket, and tube as well as safety guidance. But if it’s not your first time tubing that section, you can buy tubes and lifejackets from across the street at local shops and putting in the water at the raft, take out point under the bridge, and floating through the class 2 rapids that run alongside the park.
The current is pretty swift, and there are only a handful of spots where the water curves along the shore at a slower pace.
We opted to just wade around along the shore and mess around with the rocks and actually spent way more time there than we had planned. The shore opposite the park belongs to a campground, but you can see lots of spots people built up with rocks to made mini pool areas.
Park itself is very clean, and has restrooms. Saw a playground but didn’t check it out.
The park looks nice after the flood destroyed parts of it. I didn’t see any of the usual homeless people loitering, so maybe they’ve been relocated. Years ago, they were a real problem, stealing anything not nailed down and wandering along the river.
Great park, good fishing spot with nearby food and bait shops and keep an open eye for the whiskey flat days in February.
Nestled in Kernville lies a delightful park, offering a serene haven for anglers seeking respite from exorbitant fees prevalent elsewhere along the same stretch of river. Here, amidst nature’s embrace, I reeled in a stunning rainbow trout, a testament to the area’s bountiful waters. Though merely a brief detour en route to conquering the Kern River’s zenith, its allure is undeniable. I wholeheartedly recommend seizing the opportunity to bask in its tranquility, for such idyllic retreats are rare gems to be cherished.
Beautiful and clean many places to sit. It’s also on the river. Many people go rafting on the river but you can also find many calm areas for the kids. The park it’s self has a small play ground area and exercising equipment. The whole area is clean from the river to the park. It’s also located right on town so many places to eat.
