Travers Park is a beloved neighborhood spot located in the heart of Jackson Heights, New York. Known for its vibrant blend of green spaces and community amenities, the park serves families, children, seniors, and visitors looking for dog-friendly areas. While not an exclusive dog park, the park offers extensive shaded areas provided by mature trees, plenty of seating, and access to several multi-use paths where dogs on leash can enjoy a stroll through this pet-friendly area. The well-maintained lawns, playgrounds, sports courts, and relaxing seating areas help make it a fixture in the local community.
What sets Travers Park apart are its thoughtful upgrades like expanded seating, running tracks, and dedicated spaces for kids, which contribute to its inclusive and multi-purpose atmosphere. Pet owners can enjoy leash walks with their dogs while benefiting from shaded rest areas, and proximity to local trails along 34th Avenue. The park’s central location and welcoming design make it an ideal destination for dog walkers and pet-friendly outings in Jackson Heights.
I personally really love this park. It’s small but it has everything I need. Its a clean park, Bench areas, chess and checker table chair areas, you can eat or play. 2 tennis courts. Playground for kids, restrooms, clean women’s restroom. Enough trees for shade. This park is on 34th Ave. This Avenue is beautiful full of trees. Safe for running and walking.
Travers Park was always a good park with good thought out plan. But now they added more seating area and running tracks for seniors along with the existing sections. Such as, It has baby section that is exclusive to babies under 4 years. Then 4year above kids section, sprinkler, swing, basketball court, squash court and some more. It’s a ideal park for a versatile community.
Travers Park is a community park of a few streets block, which has sport field, playground, and a small man-made green-land mountain. But the extended park does include 34th Avenue of about 20-street block. City Hall and community activities do work together to improve 34th Avenue for joggers, bikers and community residents who want to have safe field for exercise and rest/break.
Because of the Park project, all types of tall trees are preserved and protected as natural shades from sun heat. Many old buildings in 34th Avenue and 35th Avenue are all protected and classified as historical buildings.
It seems to be a successful project for re-design of community park which seems to suitable for all ages.
I would give it 5 stars but the rats are really scary. The little bushes planted all around the park is a breeding (play) ground for these pests. They run around like welcomed guests 😒
Little neighborhood park. It is good they put a fence on a portion where no pets are allowed. They just need to designate areas for kids where they can be noisy and play, and another place where people, especially the senuirs, can sit, read, and relax. I saw a few times children crashing on other people just walking.
