If you’re seeking an adventurous outing with your furry companion, Kearsarge North Trailhead in Intervale, New Hampshire, offers a pet-friendly hiking experience with panoramic mountain views. This scenic trail boasts a steady climb of over 2,500 feet and is known for its breathtaking 360-degree vistas from the historic fire tower at the summit. Locals and visitors alike rave about the invigorating workout, especially rewarding for active dog owners who love exploring nature alongside their pets.
The trail is well marked, intuitive to follow, and is considered a moderate to challenging hike, making it an ideal destination for seasoned hikers and their dogs. Note that the parking area is limited to about 6-7 cars and is clearly signed. While the trail offers exposed rocky outcrops and some shade, there are no specific fenced dog areas or water amenities on site, so bring plenty of water and supplies for you and your dog. Enjoy one of the most renowned dog-friendly trails in the White Mountains region!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND! just be careful towards the top there is still ice up top in mid May. I would classify this hike as moderate and advise beginners to avoid this one. The first 2/3 of the trail are fine but when you get to around the top 1/3 it’s very rocky and extremely steep. Either way be prepared for a workout. It is definitely worth the effort for the incredible 360 degree panoramic views from the fire tower. Awesome view of majestic Mount Washington in all of it’s glory! This is definitely a must on the list if your in the area.
Took me 3.5 hours round trip. About 1.5 hours each way as I was really pushing my pace to hit the top right after sunrise and get back in time to get online for work. Legal parking is clearly labeled, albeit small at 6-7 cars. Walking around the rather expansive rock top or jumping into the tower you can get great views. Trail was intuitive and easy to follow even before sunrise in summer time. Hike with hands a bit to gain and maintain ballgame near the top.
It is about a 6 mile total hike it took me (21 yr old) 6 1/2 hours to complete. It was challenging but had a pretty amazing 360 view on a bluebird day. Went beginning of April and there was alot of snow. I recommend wearing proper hiking shoes with spikes! It was a steep hike. The way down was alot of slipping and sliding, should’ve brought a sled. All in all it was a great experience!
One of my favorite hikes of 2023! Despite super thick ground fog keeping some of the view hidden from sight, on top was quite nice! I’ll definitely be back on a clearer summer or fall day.
The hike itself is fairly easy compared to taller neighbors in the area.
P.S. Does anyone know how much it would cost to buy the fire tower? 😂 #housegoals
Stayed in the fire tower all by myself. Mid-week is the way to go.
Steady incline of 2500+ feet. Rated hard if you have a heavy backpack for overnight camping. Can be done in about 3 hours+/-
Worth the effort! The views were spectacular!!
