Fox Grove Park: Dog Park in Hughson, California

Fox Grove Park is a unique spot located in Hughson, California, known for its natural beauty along the river and for being a haven for wildlife, especially a well-established cat colony. While the area offers picturesque trails for walking and access to the river for kayaking or rafting, it is important for dog owners to note that the park is home to a large number of stray and community cats. This gives the park a compassionate and animal-friendly atmosphere, but may not make it an ideal environment for all dogs, especially those prone to chasing cats.

The park features pet-friendly trails and a bird sanctuary, offering opportunities for dog-friendly hiking and outdoor adventures. However, amenities specifically for dogs, such as fenced play areas or off-leash zones, are not highlighted, and visitors may encounter obstacles like fishing lines and some maintenance issues. Those looking for a safer off-leash dog park in Hughson or a fully equipped, dog-specific space may want to explore other options.

Just hard to express how I really feel about this place.seriously needs a good clean up,lot’s of fishing string everywhere you look,i almost tripped over some, and the bathrooms are super bad…the place we were had such a terrible vibe.i wouldn’t recommend this place for a family adventure not one bit, plus cat’s everywhere you turn, very unhealthy cat’s, sorry I haven’t one good thing to say.

Beautiful, quaint and lots of strays. Thankful for the trap neuter return TNR for these babies. Most have their ears tipped which means no more breeding. Most are friendly so it’s sad to think they once had a home. I hope this cat colony continues to be monitored, fed, and screened for health.

Please stop dropping your animals off here! These sweet babies don’t deserve this. Please come get a cat! The ones with a clipped ear have already been spayed or neutered. There’s a kind woman who gives the cats water with medicine to help them keep from getting parasites. She tries to work with people and shelters to get them homes. Please come rescue a cat and thank miss venita for her kind heart if you ever get the pleasure of talking with her!

I’m giving this place a five star review, but it could be better.
I like the aspect of a bird sanctuary, the river to kayak, and seeming pretty well kept. However, there are 40+ unhoused, dropped off, abandoned cats. I was pleased to see cat boxes made and camouflaged, dry food spread across in the grass, and water in several tubs. I visited today feeding wet food to what I visually counted to be 43 cats. It’s a bit heartbreaking as I am an animal lover.
They are friendly but scared. I encourage anyone who visits to share resources for these helpless cats.
