If you’re searching for a spacious, pet-friendly dog park in Houston, Texas, Maxey Park is a local favorite that offers plenty for both dogs and their owners. With large, fenced-in areas for off-leash play, separate spaces for small and large dogs, and a welcoming atmosphere, this dog park provides a safe environment for pups to run, play, and make new friends. Tall trees line the edges, giving ample shade, while strategically placed benches allow owners to relax and socialize as their dogs burn off energy.
Maxey Park also features paved hiking trails, BBQ grills, picnic tables, and a children’s playground, making it a fantastic family destination. Amenities like a working water fountain for dogs and wheelchair-accessible entrances and parking enhance its convenience for visitors. While the park has faced occasional maintenance concerns, ongoing improvements show dedication to making this park a top spot for pet lovers in the Houston area. Just remember to help keep this beautiful space clean for everyone to enjoy!
Huge open area for the pups to run full speed! Some trees on the fence line for the pups to get lost in, a few trees in the middle for shade and some benches for sitting are all nice touches to this park.
There are a little side, a big side and a leashed area with some bbq pits and more benches and tables.
Great dog park with very large open area for pups to explore! We went a day or two after a big rain and it was surprisingly not muddy. There was a working water fountain for the dogs to drink from. There are separate areas for small and large dogs as well as a playground for kids and families. 10/10 would do again
I love my community park but it needs improvement. Love it actually how it has become better. Children still can’t play on the playground because it muds all around. The trail should go all around inside the park to walk or jogg. I would consider a big gazebo more tables and benches ♥️
This is so run down and not taking care of. There’s a lot of trash and broken glass bottles all throughout the field and in the child’s park area. That is all run down with Rusty screws the child could get seriously injured. The fences are broken. They need to mow the grass. Our legs are full of bites from the insects It was just about up to our knees. Bums are living in the park on hammocks. Sleeping on the picnic tables. I don’t feel this is a safe place The fence is broken several parts that lead right out to the highway. There’s parts of the fence that are broken and a dog park area that is not safe they can get out The area is very run down and a bunch of apartment complexes in the area and I didn’t feel comfortable myself. I do not recommend going to this run-down Park. It’s pitiful. I really hope Dwight D Eisenhower Park gets on the ball and fixes the necessary damages from the tornado and the recent hurricane.
Update January ’25…. they are planting trees. They put in new benches It’s great to see that they are fixing this place up.
There needs to be trees in the middle with some benches as well.
This is a fantastic, fenced area for pets with designated spaces for both small and large dogs. However, it deserves a 5-star rating if it weren’t for the growing issue of litter. It’s extremely disappointing to see people leaving trash on the ground instead of using the provided trash cans. I often notice pet owners allowing their dogs to roam freely in the parking lot without leashes, which is unsafe and unacceptable. We all need to do better to maintain this great space!
