Moanalua Dog Park in Honolulu, HI, is a popular community spot for both locals and visitors looking for a welcoming place to exercise their dogs. This spacious, pet-friendly park offers a large fenced area for dogs to run and play off-leash, making it ideal for letting your pup socialize and burn off energy. With plenty of shade provided by mature trees, your dog can stay cool during sunny days, and there are water spigots available near the entrance for refilling bowls. While some amenities can be limited—such as a lack of on-site water fountains and minimal seating—regulars appreciate the friendly atmosphere among dog owners and the convenience of nearby public trails and green spaces.
Unique features of Moanalua Dog Park include separate areas for large and small dogs, lush shade from trees, and a hilly terrain that adds some adventure for active pups. The on-leash walking paths nearby offer scenic views of Honolulu and Diamond Head, making it perfect for those looking to combine dog park time with dog-friendly hiking. Be sure to bring your own water and poop bags, as park supplies are limited, and enjoy the easy street parking and accessibility. Moanalua Dog Park is known for its cleanliness and community feel, but do keep an eye on your pet and practice good canine etiquette to ensure a safe, enjoyable visit for everyone.
I was with someone who ran out of gas on the viaduct overlooking the park.
It was nighttime so I couldn’t really see the park
A very nice police officer stopped and waiting while we went and got gas.
Thanks to Brian F who came to our rescue
Nice sized dog park with lots of shade. There is a separate smaller area for small dogs. The large area has three picnic tables and two benches. The back of the park is a hilly area with trees that the dogs can wander through. The pond feature is no longer working. Overall a very nice park to let your buddy run around and meet the other pups. There is water available, bring your own bags to dispose of your dog’s business.
The park is large and relatively clean. There is no separate enclosure for small dogs. The large trees provide ample shade all day. Owners must self monitor the park and there have been incidents of aggressive dogs attacking other dogs. Those aggressive dogs are allowed to continue to go into the park.
Dog owners are kind to one another. If you see someone’s dog poop then pick it up if they are not close by and let them know. (THANKS KONA’S owner) Friday 4pm dog park doggies are big dogs but are not aggressive. Queenie black dog, Pinkerton light brown dog, Bei-lee little black humpty happy
Large fenced off area for the dogs to run around. It has shade and grass and it’s cleaned every Tuesday. No separate sections for small/ large dogs.
