Ala Wai Promenade Dog Park in Honolulu, Hawaii is a favorite local destination for pet owners looking for a safe and social spot to exercise their dogs. Conveniently located between Kalakaua Avenue and Ala Moana Beach Park, this hidden gem offers a tranquil, shady setting with wide, accessible walkways and plenty of benches. The park features a fenced-in, double-gated dog area, providing peace of mind for owners as their pets play off-leash. Separate sections for small and large dogs ensure a safe and comfortable experience for canines of all sizes.

While the grounds are mostly grassy with some muddy spots after rain, the park is known for its open layout, shaded picnic areas, and dog-friendly atmosphere. Afternoon trips are popular, with more canine friends arriving after 4:30 p.m. Owners will appreciate the convenience of water faucets (although communal bowls and bags are best brought from home), as well as the close proximity to a kids’ playground, making it an excellent spot for families. Though the park does not have restrooms or agility equipment and poop bags stations are frequently empty, Ala Wai Promenade remains a beloved spot for Honolulu’s dog-loving community.

The “promenade” is a shady shortcut between Kalakaua ave.and Ala Moana beach park.Plenty of shade and benches on a brick paved upper platform with cemented paths stepping down or rolling to the waters edge . Easily accessible to The mobily challenged.A nice place to enjoy the sounds of rush hour traffic and the ever blareing sirens of HPD and EMT vehicles .And a dog park unofficially in the middle of the upper level. It’s good to have open space in the city .No restrooms or fresh water available on the promenade is why I only gave 4 stars!
