Hawaii has the highest rate of homelessness per capita in the US. Many people choose to come to Hawaii to be homeless, because of the favorable natural and social environment. When we visited the big island in 2022, they were highly visible everywhere, including Mo’oheau Park.

Calm area, schools go there for games. Police office there and convenient bathroom too because there’s no other easy access around unless you are consuming. Sundays very slow specially if raining which is almost always. Affordable small farm market around the street, very delicious fruits to snack.

Amazung underground lava tubes and structures. Dark, compelling beauty. Bring a good flashlight. Be careful in 2019 a man fell into a hidden hole 22 feet and was killed in his own backyard.

Stunning spot but do nott understand why the parking was blocked. Had to park on the shoulder of a VERY busy street.
