The Caboose Park is a tiny area with benches, shade trees, and a full-sized caboose right next to the Herndon Municipal Building. Calling it a park is a bit of a stretch, but it’s still a cool spot. It’s a great place to bring kids to let them climb around on the caboose and to eat your ice cream from the Dairy Queen across the street. I often see cyclists taking a rest here as the W&OD trail is adjacent to the park. Neat piece of history in downtown Herndon.
Very nice place to visit with your toddler or as in my case, my 5 year old who was delighted to see the original caboose preserved right off the trail.
Get place to start a walk or ride. Can get crowded at peak times. Definitely stay to your right as much as possible. Bikes can be passing at high speeds.
If you have kids into trains, take them here! It’s a 1949 caboose with a little museum inside. When it’s closed, you can still climb on it. My daughter loves pretending to drive it! Nearby are many family-friendly restaurants.
Spent day in this neighborhood with my toddler and absolutely loved it. Best place for the people who love to ride bikes. Nuce trails and very friendly atmosphere ☀️ My toddler also loved long walks to the “parke” ❣️
