🐾 Kids at the Dog Park: Real Stories, Safety Risks & Smarter Solutions

If you’re searching for scenic dog-friendly hiking in Hackettstown, New Jersey, Florence Kuipers Park offers a peaceful and lesser-known retreat for both you and your pet. The park features challenging inclines, flat walking trails, and a beautiful natural landscape, making it a local favorite for pet owners who enjoy outdoor activities with their furry companions. With easy and free parking, access is convenient year-round.
Although it is not a traditional fenced dog park, this pet-friendly trail system allows dogs to explore the trails (on-leash) through changing terrain and under a unique train trestle. Please be prepared for some muddy sections after rain and enjoy the tranquility this “hideaway” provides—an ideal spot for hiking, walking, and spending time with your dog in nature, away from crowds.
This trail is a medium ranked trail. It’s all incline and decline. But, it’s a nice trail that not many people use.
A hideaway trail you would never be aware of as a non-hiking person. Local hikers and trail seekers may be aware of this trail; but many I assume are NOT aware of the place because you can’t see the parking lot nor the trail unless you actually pull your car into the entrance of Florence Kuipers Park.
The trail starts obviously at the parking lot and goes under the train tracks through a tressel briefly, than it’s a slight but continuous incline until you get on top of the ridge. From the parking lot and start of the trail to the top of the ridge is roughly a half-mile walk.
From the ridge top to the end of the trail is probably another half mile. I cannot confirm the distance from the top of the ridge to the end of the trail, because I never finished the trail. I’m only going by what hikers on that trail told me.

Great place to hike. Some nice challenging inclines and good flat paths. Some areas can be muddy after rain. Beautiful fauna to look at. Safe
