Carolina Thread Trail-Rocky Creek Trail is a scenic spot for outdoor enthusiasts and their furry companions in Great Falls, South Carolina. This pet-friendly trail is a favorite among locals for hiking, walking, and birdwatching, making it an ideal getaway for families and dog owners. With dogs allowed on the trails, it’s a wonderful location to explore natural beauty together while enjoying gentle rapids, rocky outcrops, and the tranquil sound of the creek.
The trail begins at a large parking lot and features a steep but manageable entry before flattening out near Rocky Creek. While the area can get muddy after rain and some segments have downed trees, the broader trail is still accessible—just bring sturdy shoes for comfort. Most of the trail is shaded, making it a comfortable visit even in the heat. It’s particularly appealing thanks to its peaceful atmosphere, wide paths, beautiful creek views, and opportunities for kids to play or splash in the water on warmer days.
Plenty of parking when you arrive, we went on a early morning, only ones there right up until we were leaving. The first segment of the trail is a steep downhill walk. Once you get to the bottom where the path splits, left is the waterfall, not sure where the right path leads. We totally guessed at where to find the waterfall, we guessed right :). You can hear the waterfall when you get close to it, it was beautiful. Be careful getting to it as the path is a bit beaten due to the hurricane, there is still significant damage around (fallen trees, bridge overturned), the area around the waterfall was littered a bit (trash, broken bottles, etc). My little one loved it though! We did find a turtle while we were there. Cool little getaway.
A couple trees down- but you can go around them . Only had to go over 1, but it wasn’t difficult. Trail was muddy-ish but you could go around those parts too. Not much to look at but there’s some rocks you can go out on close to the end.
The trail starts at a large parking lot. The first part is steep and washed out but once you get to the creek it is pretty flat. It can be muddy after rain, although if it hasn’t rained the waterfall is very small. We’ve brought watershoes and swimsuits for the kids on the summer. It’s never very busy.
Really nice area, have plenty of parking and not hard to find. Trail was wide. There were areas where we had to maneuver around because of water. Whether it was puddles or saturated dirt and rocks. From the parking lot you go down the hill and you come to a tea intersection. We went to the right along the river and walked all the way to where they had little bit of falls and rapid areas. It was a nice place to stop and just enjoy The view, take pictures. Very enjoyable Trail not hard at all.
Beautiful place to see some modest rapids! Easy hike for this non-hiking lady, lol. Took my husband and dogs and had a really nice time! From the parking lot there is a fairly steep path down that is a bit broken up and washed out in areas, so sturdy tennis shoes/hiking boots are helpful. Otherwise the path is flat and shaded after that. Thought there were waterfalls, but we didn’t see any, lol. Great spot to easily walk out on rocks and/or hang out. Sign says there are ruins, but didn’t see those. Perhaps they are further than we went? We were happy with the adventure we had! Enjoy!
