If you’re seeking a dog park in Grand Marais that offers both natural beauty and a pet-friendly environment, Grand Marais Public Beach is an excellent choice on Lake Ave. This rustic lakeshore park welcomes dogs and their owners with easy access to the water, stunning sunsets, rock picking, and expansive sandy stretches—all perfect for leisurely dog walks and outdoor adventures. Wheelchair accessible entrances and parking make it easy for everyone to visit.
The park boasts ample onsite parking, basic restroom amenities (porta potties), and a relaxing shoreline ideal for swimming, strolling, or simply enjoying the sights and sounds of Lake Superior. It’s a wonderful spot for families and pet owners alike, with open spaces, unique rock collections, and panoramic views. While it’s not a traditional fenced dog park, it stands out as a pet-friendly trail and beach destination in Grand Marais—great for dogs who enjoy exploring on-leash.
The beach has a had a great view of the sunset, great place to walk, and plenty of rock piles for rock picking. If you’re looking for agates, this is probably not the place to find them. I’ve talked to some other people and they said they have yet to find a single agate.
Rocks galore! But so much more… the sunset was marvelous. A quaint little town make sure you take a relaxing walk to the public beach.
The rocks are amazing to either just enjoy or look for your favorite to add to your collection.
Plenty of parking.
Absolutely gorgeous place to walk along. The fog horn is great to listen to and so many cool rocks to look at. Overall, it’s just a nice place to sit and relax.
When i saw it first, i thought it is a sea, and because i came from maritime industry, my background gave me this feeling of being on board of a ship.
Amazing place to swim and to collect beautiful shells, colorfully stones. Amazing place to spend the day on the sand and enjoy the cold water swim and have the feeling that this is no salty water, fresh water!. i highly recommend to visit Grand Marais and to visit this particular beach.
This is one of my favorite beaches of all time. It has it all, gorgeous views, a lighthouse, cliffs in the distance, sand and amazing rocks! We went in mid August and the weather was just perfect- around 75 degrees and the lake was so calm! We found so many good rocks. There is plenty of parking. There are porta potties by the parking area. No changing rooms. I would consider this a rustic park.
