🐾 Kids at the Dog Park: Real Stories, Safety Risks & Smarter Solutions

James D. Martin Wildlife Park is a pet-friendly destination located in Gadsden, Alabama, featuring a spacious, well-maintained dog park perfect for local dog owners. The dog park boasts separate fenced areas for large and small dogs, allowing safe and enjoyable off-leash play for pets of various sizes. With tall, secure fencing and double-gated entrances, both pups and owners can enjoy peace of mind. Water stations are available in both sections of the park (though it can get muddy near them after rainfall). Shade from trees adds comfort during warm Alabama days, making it an inviting spot for regular visits.
Beyond the dog park, James D. Martin Wildlife Park offers beautiful hiking trails, breathtaking lake views, and a clean, well-lit children’s playground. While dogs aren’t allowed on the boardwalk around the lake, there are plenty of other walking and nature opportunities for the whole family. The entire area is accessible, offering wheelchair-friendly entrances and parking, as well as plenty of room to walk, relax, and enjoy nature with your furry friend.
Other than being a great walking trail, this park has a wonderful🐾 DOG PARK!🐾. Well kept and spacious. Lots of trees in the center and lots of open grass area for human/pup interaction. It is divided into large and small dog areas, big plus. Water is supplied in each area (very muddy around the cement slab after it rains so take towels or blanket to protect your car). The tall fence looks new and very secure no holes for escape. There is a main entrance with double gates to unleash before they enter the park. The three larger gates for the mowers are chained and locked, another big plus. If you are planning on hanging around while your pups play, take a seat because the only benches available are outside the fence. Love this place! It is a hidden treasure!
Very nice walk with the dogs. Quiet and beautiful. They also have a dog park fenced in.
Great area to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. Be advised that dogs are NOT allowed on the walk way around the lake.
Childrens playground was clean and well let with no signs of cigarettes butts or graffiti. Test rooms were clean for public restrooms in a park.
This is my favorite place to get a good walk/run in. The views are Absolutely breathtaking!!!! They have a very large bark park one side is for small dogs and the other is for large breeds. Plenty of room for your furry friend to run and play with other dog’s. You can also fish here in many different spots. I will most definitely be back time and time again ☺️
Once I figured out what side to park on it was great I initially navigated to the Bark Park.
There’s a cool Boardwalk to walk on and saw a crane.
