🐾 Kids at the Dog Park: Real Stories, Safety Risks & Smarter Solutions

Uptown Dog Park offers a spacious and pet-friendly environment for dogs and their owners in Frederick, MD. This dog park features two fenced areas—a large hilly section and an extra-large open space—making it a top choice for both energetic pups and owners seeking a safe place for off-leash play. Located conveniently near Schifferstadt Boulevard and Thomas Johnson Middle School, the park is accessible with plenty of parking for visitors.
Recent improvements include mowed grassy fields, trash cans, waste bag dispensers, and a working water fountain for thirsty pups. There are covered benches near the gated entries, providing shelter from the sun, and a water station at the front of the parking lot. Though there is generous space, visitors should be mindful of the hilly terrain and minor gaps along the fence that could be a concern for very small dogs. Uptown Dog Park stands out as a clean, well-maintained gem in the local dog park scene, perfect for those searching for a dog-friendly spot in Frederick.
It is very overgrown, doesn’t seem like it’s been mowed. There are no benches, no shade, no trash cans. It is just a couple of large fenced-in spaces.
It’s okay. There’s a decent amount of space in the larger part of the park. However, there are no trash cans so poop bags were left everywhere and the water fountain was not yet working. There are also no poop bags provided like most dog parks do, so be sure to bring your own.
Updating – It is open and fully functional! Trash cans, bags, dog water fountain, grass is mown. Two good sized fields.

Can’t wait!
I emailed the city this morning and already got a response.
“…. The parkland has not been dedicated to the City as of yet. There are 2 small pavilions that still need to be constructed, followed by the formal dedication of parkland. We are hopeful that will occur this spring and we will be able to open the park for use. “
There are two fenced in areas. A large one with a hill and a x-large one. The patrons are very respectful and responsible. There are two covered benches near the gated areas and a water station at the beginning of the parking lot. A diamond honestly.
I am really happy to have a dog park close to my house. There was a lot of parking but the park was very quiet. The park area had a pretty steep grade hill so if you have mobility issues please be careful. The play area for large dogs is huge!!! There was a lot of poop so please pick up after your dog. Also seemed to be gaps along the fence line. A large dog would not fit but small dogs may slip out! The park interior could use benches or seating.
